Mt. Vernon Winery

While you're touring the Placer County seat, visit the oldest and largest winery, the Mt Vernon Winery.

Mt. Vernon Winery has the capacity to de-stem and crush wine grapes at eight tons per hour and our holding tanks can store nearly 11,000 gallons of wine. The wine cave is currently storing over 500 barrels of French and American oak aged wine.

The harvest of 2010 reaped nearly 80 tons of grapes. The year of 1996 was the first vineyard planting of Estate grapes with 7 acres planted. The year 1999 was our first commercial harvest. However, there is plenty of room to grow on the balance of the 32 acre parcel. More vineyards are planned for the future.

The tasting room is an old restored milk house originally built in 1950. Jim and Lynda Taylor purchased their estate unaware of the incredible possibilities the rich and nurtured land would hold for their winery. Mt. Vernon Winery is committed to meticulous vineyard management resulting in a small but spectacular production of their estate bottled wines. Many of these Estate wines have won very prestigious medals (Gold & Above & 95 + Points) at three of the highest ranked competitions in the world.

Bear River Winery

Mt. Vernon's not the only excellent winery in the Auburn area. Your next stop should be the Bear River Winery Tasting Room in Old Auburn. Bear River Winery is a family operated boutique micro wine grower producing small lots of hand crafted wines using traditional methods from grapes sourced in and around northern Sierra vineyards.

Our new tasting room is located at 111 Sacramento Street in the Gold Rush Plaza, Suite I.

Our current tasting flight is $7.00 (+tax), included 8 different wines, and you get to keep the souvenir glass:

2017 Chardonnay – A stainless steel fermented Chardonnay with flavors of Pear and Pineapple.

2017 Bear River White ™ – A blend of Chenin Blanc and Viogner give this special blend flavors of Grapefruit and Honey.

2016 Zinfandel Rosè – Not your typical Rosè as we take a red varietal and make a Rosè out of it. Not to peppery as a traditional Zinfandel would be.

2016 Pinot Noir – A light but fruity Pinot Noir.

2013 Bear River Red ™ – A great Merlot dominant blend with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah.

2014 Merlot – This Merlot is Fruity but dry and made with Organically Grown Grapes. Bronze Medal Winner at the 2018 SF Chronicle Wine Competition and the CA State Fair.

2014 Cabernet Sauvignon – Our Super Dry, very earthy Cabernet Sauvignon. Made with Organically Grown Grapes. Bronze Medal at the 2018 CA State Fair

2014 Left Paw – A cuvee blend of 2/3 Cabernet Sauvignon and 1/3 Merlot. Made with Organically Grown Grapes.

Dono dal Cielo

We are following our lifelong passion for that perfect balance of earth, sun and soil and have called Newcastle our home for many decades. That passion has brought us to our own Dono dal Cielo, meaning “gift from Heaven” in Italian. That sentiment is a driving force behind what we do. As a single estate vineyard, Dono dal Cielo was born in 2002 with our first 6,000 Zinfandel vines planted on 7 acres. Our inaugural vintage, a brilliant award-wining 2005 Zinfandel, was the perfect platform from which to launch our true passion of allowing the terroir to shine through our wines. We believe that our story begins and spreads through our fans, friends and family. Each bottle is an open invitation and we truly feel blessed to have the opportunity to share such a beautiful gift with all who open a bottle.

PaZa Estate Winery

PaZa Estate Winery opened almost 6-years ago for public tastings and sales. Their rustically elegant Tasting Shed is positioned near the vineyard, with awesome views of the Coastal Mountains and Sutter Buttes. It’s kind of like Napa was in the 70’s, where folks are welcome to bring their own picnic, relax, and enjoy one of the award winning wines.

This wine story, like so many others, started from a dream. For Pamela and Zane, it began with friends almost 15-years ago. Touring and tasting wines in the Sierra Foothills, and meeting owners and wine makers of smaller boutique operations around Placer, El Dorado, and Amador. The couple found themselves fantasizing about living in the country, and owning a vineyard and winery. After looking at many properties in a short time, they found this slightly secluded place, surrounded by wonderful views, and potentially perfect spot for a vineyard. So, in 2005 they dove-in and made the move from Roseville to Auburn. Now, the vineyard is 10-years old, and just keeps getting better.
